Waxing is a popular simple semi-permanent hair removal method, where the hair is removed from the roots for longer lasting results. It will take around two to eight weeks for new hair to grow back. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet.
After preparing the area, the wax is applied to the skin and clings to the hairs. When the wax is removed, the hairs are stuck to the wax, leaving your skin silky smooth. Hair regrowth becomes softer and results last longer.
Waxing can keep your skin hair free for up to 2-5 weeks; however, results can vary with each person due to different hair types and how frequently you wax. New waxing clients or clients that haven't been waxed for a long period of time, may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so, and it can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results, especially if you have previously shaved or used depilatory creams. Regular waxing every 4 to 5 weeks is highly recommended, to maintain a smooth appearance and to ensure waxing treatments are quick and virtually pain free each time.
This varies from client to client. After the first few waxes, it is generally a 4 to 5 week wax routine that people will adapt too. However, some clients can push up to 6-8 weeks between waxes.
Hard Wax is a peel off wax applied thickly on the skin and removed with fingertips. It is used for waxing sensitive & delicate areas such as eyebrows, facial waxing, underarms and bikini waxing.
Strip wax is applied thinly and removed with a waxing strip; this is great for larger areas of skin such as legs, arms, back, chest and some facial waxing.
For best results and less discomfort, it’s important the hair is about the length of a grain of rice or an eyelash.
Hard wax can grab hairs as short as 1mm in length. Strip wax can remove hair as short as 2mm. Everyone has a different growth cycle, I am generally able to wax areas that have been shaved 7-10 days earlier. However, with larger parts of the body, arms/legs, I suggest leaving it two to three weeks before waxing it. Clients that have not waxed or shaved for a long period of time need not worry as I will trim the hair to a suitable length for waxing.
Exfoliation - Exfoliation should be done 24-48 hours before waxing. While I do recommend that you exfoliate your body regularly with a body scrub or bath mitt, as well as dry brushing in circular motions towards the heart, is great for keeping the skin soft but it also helps to prevent in-grown hairs.
Shower - Taking a bath or shower an hour or two before your appointment, will open up the pores and soften the skin and allow the hairs to come out less painfully and easier to remove. Do not use moisturiser or deodorant on underarms or use any product which may cause a barrier to the wax and irritate the skin.
Wear loose comfortable clothing - wearing loose comfortable clothing to your appointment and for a few hours after. This will prevent irritation and allow the pores to breathe.
Pain relief - If you have a very low threshold on pain, take an over the counter painkiller 30 minutes before your appointment.
No not at all, that is what I am here for. If you do it yourself you run the risk of over trimming which will reduce the results of your wax. Don't worry that it will be too long because too short is far worse. I will trim if necessary.
You are using any retinol products i.e. Retin A, Renova etc. On your bikini line or brows.
You are using Accutane.
You have any kind of sunburn, laser burn, pustules or breakouts on the area to be waxed.
You are diabetic. However, I can wax you if you bring a doctors to note saying it’s okay for you to be waxed.
Basic bikini - hair removed from the top and sides of bikini area just inside the panty line.
Extended bikini/ T or G - string - same as basic bikini however the top can be taken slightly higher with some hair removed underneath following the line of a g - string.
Hollywood - leaves you completely bare from front to back.
Brazilian - leaves you bare from front to back with a neat strip or triangle at the front
I take hygiene seriously and want to protect you and me, therefore I always wear gloves ( Vinyl not latex ) when waxing. I don't double dip, I use a clean spatula each time, I dip into the wax and throw it away and take another fresh spatula. I keep all tweezers and scissors in barbicide which is a hospital grade disinfectant.
Every person has a different pain threshold and also experiences waxing differently, however, if you maintain your waxing regularly, most find it easier as the hairs become thinner, lighter and more sparse after a few treatments. If your pain threshold is particularly low, a couple of Nurofen tablets half an hour prior to treatment tends to reduce the pain.
Yes of course, just wear a freshly changed tampon before the treatment. However your skin is usually more sensitive during that time of the month, it will probably be more painful.
If you’re going on a sunny holiday, have your waxing done 24-48 hours before you plan to expose your skin to the sun. ( 48 hours or more if this is your first ever wax).
Absolutely - treatments can be tailored to ensure you are comfortable throughout the whole process.
in-growing hairs look initially like a small red spot. It is important to remove the in-grown hair as soon as possible to prevent it from becoming an abscess.
Tanning lotions, alkaline cosmetics, after shave products containing alcohol and bars of soap leave a film on the body that could cause in-grown hairs. It is best to avoid these for a least 48 hours post grooming.
moisturise the area every day to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through safely.
NO! Shaving and hair removal creams increase the growth and thickness of the hair making it more painful for you on your next waxing session. Repeatedly using these removal methods can also harm the epidermis of the skin, the top layer of the skin.
Waxing is the smarter choice because it removes hair below skin level. This immediately weakens the hair follicle so hair grows back more slowly, lightly and sparsely over time. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to fall into a growth cycle that gives you optimal results, so stick with it and you will see and feel the benefits.
if you must shave between waxing, be sure to shave in the direction of hair growth. not against. Always use shaving cream or gel to protect the skin from irritation and ingrown hairs.
